New Board of Directors Elects Office Bearers and Calls for Ideas from the Community

On Thursday 14th January the new board of directors of the Development Trust met for the first time this session.

One of the things the directors are keen to get started on developing is a new work stream for the next period. We are in the process of looking at projects that can be developed for the benefit of the community. We have a few projects that have been suggested by the Resilience group and others but we are keen to hear about projects that you would like us to investigate and try to develop on behalf of the community. The board will then investigate them, make a list with information and distribute to the membership for consideration.

New Board Members:
Paul Bulmer,
Garry Kirby,
Calum Maclean,
Ros McGhee and
John Allan (Co-opted)
Graham Curran (Co-opted)

Retiring Directors:
Alex MacNaughton,
Colin Boyd and
Jim McLuckie

The board wish to thank Alex, Colin and Jim for all the hard work and dedication they have shown over the years. They have done a lot for our community and we have much to thank them for.

At the first meeting of the new board the following office bearers were selected:

  • Chair Cathleen Russell
  • Vice Chair Harry Andrews
  • Secretary Paul Bulmer
  • Treasurer Calum Maclean

EGM on Sunday CANCELLED

The Board of the Development Trust has taken the decision to postpone the EGM scheduled for Sunday, 23rd August 2020.

This decision has been made as a result of an email sent to the chair threatening the trust with an interdict to prevent any meeting in any form until matters the complanant is unhappy with are resolved by a court.

The board has not done anything which justifies this action.

However, the board has concluded that the trust should not pay legal fees to ensure that it is notified if and when an interdict is granted. Therefore, taking a precautionary stance, we will no longer convene any meetings, including next Sunday’s EGM in case an interdict has been granted.

The full text of our notification to the members of the trust is available below.

Update on M&A Vote for Members

CGDT has had some queries on the ongoing vote on the change to the Mem and Arts, so here’s some clarification.

The changes are designed to make our founding document more transparent and fair for everyone. It is important that all residents in the community can become members easily, and that the process by which the board accepts memberships is compliant with new legislation and third sector advice. While this change has been prompted by a recommendation from the Development Trust Association of Scotland, it will also help CGDT progress some ongoing projects where an updated M&A is regarded as a prerequisite for funding applications.

While there is no legal requirement for us to change the clauses mentioned, the board feels that this is a fair and appropriate alteration to make for the health of our community organisation.

This is part of our ongoing effort to revise and improve our governance and transparency – which is a standing item on our agenda. Any questions, do comment here!

Note: Votes require to be submitted this Thursday.
