We’re readier then we were!

Last night Sara held the second of our Are You Ready? meetings. This was follow-up to the session in Edinburgh which Charles and Sara attended and was designed to develop our ideas into a more concrete format. Everyone enjoyed the session, as well as the tea and cake afterwards. We even got our new Community Forest Project Officer along too, Mark — here’s a photo of the group.

The other thing to notice is the refurbished Colintraive Village hall. Warmer, more efficient and much better acoustics mean it is truly a delight to meet there.

Colintraive Village Hall reopens

Congratulations to the Colintraive Village Hall Committee for perservering and coming up smelling of roses (and paint and sawdust at times too!). A wonderful team effort with contractors, volunteers and funders creating a really wonderful space. The Grand Opening is at midday tomorrow, following the Village Hall Committee AGM.

It could not have been achieved without funding and support from the Climate Challenge Fund, Argyll and the Islands LEADER Programme, Cruach Mhor Windfarm Trust, and Argyll & Bute Council. The work was carried out by John Brown (Strone) Ltd, Forteiths Heating and Refrigeration Ltd, Gibson’s of Dunoon [electrical], Jim Carruthers [decorator], Calum Maclean and Andy Henderson [for the hearing loop and acoustic treatments].

Are You Ready? Update

Today Charles and Sara attended the follow up workshop in Edinburgh, building on the very successful Are You Ready? pilot at Colintraive Village Hall in February. For more information on the project, and the very successful day of resilience imagineering with agencies, utilities and communities, click here. The Trust will be contacting participants in the first event shortly to begin the process of creating a fully-fledged resilience programme.

Are We Ready? Looks like it!

Alan Caldwell brought the Are You Ready? project to Colintraive Village Hall this evening. With 17 residents, Sara led an interesting and lively session looking at how we can be ready for the increasingly turbulent weather that climate change is likely to bring. The group established the outline of an action plan which the DT was tasked with taking forward. The next step is to attend a follow-up session in Edinburgh and find out how and when we might implement things. For more on this, click here.

Housing Survey: We need your responses

This week the housing survey is being sent out to everyone in the community. The attached letter will explain all about it, but in the meantime, please fill it in as this is an essential part of providing for our housing needs as a community over the long term.

We’ve had feedback that we need affordable housing to rent and to buy, and there is also an appetite for self-build. The gerat thing is that those who live here want to stay here, and there are many many out there who would also like to live here. In fact, if that describes you, please let us know and we will mail out a survey.

The more input we get the better our projects will become!

Colintraive Ferry News Opportunities

The Ferries Review and how it might affect Colintraive

The Ferries Review is ongoing and it does affect Colintraive in particular. Here’s the relevant excerpt:

40. […] we could enhance the Colintraive to Rhubodach service, running the service through to midnight, thereby extending the operating day and meeting the model service profile. We feel that this is the most cost effective solution to meet the service gap, which at the same time, because of the reasonably high patronage on the route, could bring substantial benefit to the local economy. The intention would be to include this proposal as part of the next tender for Clyde and Hebridean Ferry services in 2013.

41. We recognise that this is not the principal route, or the route that may most often be used for commuting purposes. The community is therefore asked for their views on this proposal and whether an extended service on this route would be well used.

What do folk in our community think? Please comment here, contact a member of the board of DT, the CC or our LDO Rhona.
